When did you actually get to see the movie?
I'm proud to say I actually saw it opening day, me and my brother got our Dad to take us to this little crappy theatre, but I did see it, and then I bought it the day after it came out on vhs. than later bought it on dvd.

I wasn't actually a fan of South Park in 1999, mainly because I was too young to understand most of the jokes (most kids don't know what a clitoris is in fifth grade). I saw a few episodes, and that was it. Needless to say, I didn't see the movie when it came out.

I didn't see BLU until a few years later in 2002 (about the time I started watching South Park on a regular basis), when would finally get the jokes. I really liked it, and it was one of my favorite movies. Since then I've watched it about 200 times. biggrin.gif

I snuck into the movie. I was like 13 or 14. Me and my friend weren't even sure what south park was. We just new it was a cartoon and rated R. It was kind of ironic what the movie was about and I thought it was great. sp-cartmanlaugh.gif

I also didn't see South Park: BLU in 1999. I had been a fan of the show during the first season, then dropped back to being a more casual viewer in season two.

Then everything changed last summer. It was a weird path I took. Apart from whether or not I agreed with the message of Fahrenheit 9/11, I found it entertaining and, more importantly, an example of how one person can rather cheaply make and distribute a movie to put forward a particular point of view. It made me interested in do-it-yourself filmmaking.

I hadn't seen Bowling for Columbine, but was interested enough by then to rent the DVD which included the interview with Matt Stone and clip from BLU. South Park was presented as Matt and Trey's answer to the frustrations of growing up in a place like Littleton, Colorado. So again, making films as an outlet for a personal message interested me, and I rented South Park: BLU.

Watching BLU was a personal turning point. Of course, it was wildly entertaining and I watched it several times, engrossed by its epic scope and musical numbers, but the clincher was when the end credits rolled and I saw that a single person had directed, written, produced, starred AND written all of the songs. I searched the Internet for as much info as I could find on Trey Parker and was deeply inspired by what I saw. From there it was on to Cannibal! The Musical, Orgazmo, BASEKetBall and a renewed love of South Park. I also became a fan of Team America and joined CrapTV's Team America forum.

It sounds silly to make much of watching a few movies, but consider this. If I hadn't, I would not have been turned on to being not just a consumer of art but a producer (that is what CrapTV represents to me). I would not have picked up a pen and started drawing again. I would not have fully realized how important comedy is to happiness. Look at the state of our culture: where is the humor? The prevailing mood nearly everywhere is dark and serious. In my review of Team America I said how desperately the world needs Matt and Trey. I still believe it. I just wish I had discovered it sooner. sp-unhoodedkenny.gif

I've been a fan of south park since the premiere of toms rhinoplasty back in '98. i watched BLU three times the first week it was out. i think i was twelve or thirteen at the time.

I didn't see it until it came out on video and rented it, then my mom bought it for me. Bless my mom, she is this petite little blond haired, blue eyed pretty woman, wears clothes from Chicos, very average mom, and she loves watching South Park and listening to Metallica. Bless her cute little soul.
Fallon
saw it at the theatre with my mumsie in '99. we had been watching since the second episode, and we were ecstatic to see the movie. went on opening day, actually.

haha courtlynne, my mom is like that too. except she's not petite, as she's an runway ex-model. replace that and metallica with ozzy, and your description fits my mom too.

i really shouldn't try to make since when i'm drinking... i think this post makes about as much sense as my last one.

I always feel cool when I say that the first episode I ever saw was Mecha Streisand in the first season. Because a lot of times people just started watching and they say they'r ehuge fans.

Who Matt Stone and Tray Parker? sp-cartmanderp.gif

On TV around 2003. sp-cartmansopissedrightnow.gif I wish I had seen it in theaters!
AuntieJade
I didn't see it until it was out for rental. My aunt however, decided to take her daughter and her friend to see it when it was out.

...mind you, they were eleven at the time. And she didn't think it would be "that bad for them to see." sp-cartmanlaugh.gif

Needless to say, my aunt spent the entire movie slouched down in her seat, dying of embarrassment.

The first time I saw BLU was at a Superbowl party, actually. I was fourteen or fifteen at the time. It had just come to Pay Per View, so it was still relatively new. My mom was dating a man at the time who had a satellite dish. Well for some reason, the guy decided to be really nice and set it up at our house. Plus he had one of those cards where you get every channel on the dish. So we had access to every single channel plus the Pay Per View channels plus the adult channels. But of course, he had a parental password, so we weren't allowed to watch anything unrated or TV-MA (which was really stupid, because my mom never really cared what we watched. She just didn't want us watching porno or the South Park movie). Well they would go out all the time, which meant that my brother and I spent all of our time trying to break the code. Well after about a week of trying different birthdays and other codes he might use, we kinda gave up. Until one day it dawned on me to try the last four digits of his phone number. Yahtzee! It worked. But unfortunately, they came home about ten minutes after I broke the password. I reblocked the channels and comfortably waited until the next chance they went out.

Well the day after I broke the password happened to be Superbowl Sunday. He and my mom decided to have a Superbowl party at our house. I'm not a football watcher, so I just stayed in my room all night. Later that night, after the game, my mom, her boyfriend, and all of the guests were completely drunk, of course. And somehow the conversation got on BLU. Her friends were saying how hilarious it was and such. Well this piqued my interest, so I went in the room to talk about the movie (which I still hadn't seen, but was planning on soon). Then I said something like, "I don't see why my mother won't let me watch the movie. She never cares about anything else." And she, being drunk said, "Yeah you're right! Kevin, turn off the block so we can all watch that movie." So me, my brother, my mother, her boyfriend Kevin, and all of the drunk guests all watched South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut together as one big happy drunken family.

Incidentally, my mother's friend Jason was the one who told me about Orgazmo that very night!

I went the first week it opened, and several more times when it moved to the $1 cinema.

I was 13 when it came out, but I distinctly remember it being in theaters because I had seen some dumb piece of shit movie, and I noticed these kids (probably my age) sneaking into the movie, and I thought that they should get in trouble.

Man, I was such a narc-bitch then.

The first time I saw it was actually a long ass time ago.. probably actually later that year or the next year. I don't know how, but I was well aware of the songs.. and the movie. I bought it for my sister for Christmas a couple of years ago. Then, Team America came out, and I got crazy obsessed because I LOVED that flick. So, I've seen it a bunch since then.. and these times are for real viewings. :-)

I first saw it at my friend's house around 2001. Within the first minute I loved the movie, and I have had an obsession ever since. biggrin.gif

Edit- 69 posts..aw yeah.

Damb hollywood and all your big screens!

I was a kid, 12. I was a huge fan of south park and was pissed off to find out my sister went to see it. She was lauging about it so i had to wait till it came out on vhs. Bought it the day it was released laughed loved.

What a great 1000th post. Explaining my early love for south park.

8 years of watching south park and admiring matt and trey. And still am.

When it came out over here. I've been loving South Park since it started on C4! my brother told me about this wicked cartoon, and i've been addicted ever since. It wasnt until Goin down to South Park aired that I realised i'd seen The Spirit Of Xmas before. How cool is that wink.gif
Butters
I've seen the movie on VCD months ago for the first time tongue.gif

i'm bored so i thought i'd leave mine even thought i'm not really a big fan of south park. i first saw south park when the episode (ironically) the movie is based around aired. i think it was Death. anyway i watched SP for a while at a time but not every week. i saw the movie about 2 weeks afte it came out a theatre that wasn't really awful but it could have been a better one. i saw it about a week later at the local drive in. the movie was great though (which is the case with all of trey and matts movies)
poopstain
....I don't have a TV, so didn't know what SP was until it was too late. My first time, my roommate got this crappy Bigger Longer Uncut video, the kind that was taped from the theater, where you can see people getting up out of their seats and stuff. Anyway I saw it and fell in love right away, especially because of the musical numbers. I quickly became addicted and began abusing SP.... (pasted from my intro)
PIGFACE
I didnt see the movie until it came out on video, but if i remember correctly it was pretty new to video at the time. i remembered seeing promos on comedy central before the show was on, but once it came on my T.V lost comedy central that sucked... i was so excited to see this new show(south park) and it looked so funny.
Zwerg-im-Bikini
My first episode was "Weight Gain 4000" back in 1999 (South Park needed about 2 years to reach Germany sad.gif ). Then I went to see the movie in cinema a bit later (it was released in January 2000).
MNC
I've been a follower from the beginning & saw the movie opening night. Same with Team America.

I definitely saw South Park opening night in 1999. That was a very big deal for me in 8th grade. I found the whole thing so ironic because I had to sneak in to see it, just like the SP boys. Actually, it seemed like that movie was speaking directly to me and the friends I snuck in with. It was fabulous. Saw it three more times in the theater after that.
Tv junkie
I saw the movie in 2001. I was 11 years old.
bwkermadecs
I still have the ticket stub. I saw it Monday, July 5, 1999 at 12 PM biggrin.gif

My dad and I had been fans of the show and went to see it, it was awesome, and it was the last movie i saw in the Bay Area before we moved. i remember it was kinda shocking to hear them say swears for the first time without being bleeped.

ew, and apparently i saw Wild Wild West like 4 days before, how horrible sp-cartmansopissedrightnow.gif and it seems like that week matinee prices went up to $4.50 from 4 bucks. man, those were the days.
