If you rented or owned BASEketball on VHS, you probably saw the outtakes that were at the end of the movie. Some were funny, others weren't. I have a question for anyone who may know. (Most of you probably won't)

There's a series of outtakes during the Calcutta scene in the taxi. Coop gets in the car and says, "Driver, I'm in a hurry. Take me immediately to where they're using child labor." Then there's like a three second pause and he makes a weird face. I asked this question a long time ago on the OrgazmoDVD forum, before they all merged together. I'm assuming that a joke was going to be inserted during the pause before Coop makes the weird face. Otherwise there wouldn't be such a long pause. Just as an example of what it COULD have been:

COOP: Take me immediately to where they're using child labor.
CABBIE: Disney World?
(Coop makes face)

I think it's a fair assumption that there was a joke. Does anyone happen to know what it actually was? I could be completely wrong about the scene, but it seems odd for there to be a pause for that long.

I dont know the answer but i wouldnt mind seeing it!! or any of the out takes if anyone has them on their computer or something.

I've acctually been asked that before, and that's what I came up with.

Yeah, MattnTrey.com has most of the outtakes, but there's a few missing. Of course all of this should be on the Actor's Cut if we ever get one!

I had always assumed it was "Disney World" as the reply, but it was probably dropped seeing as it had already been used once.

Well see that's the thing. They actually used in AFTER that scene, so it could've been kept. I have a strong feeling that it was supposed to be Disney World, and they wanted that to be a quick running gag at the end, but it didn't work. Again, I could be completely wrong.

The other outtake that I never understood was an extremely short clip of Coop wearing a suit and he was about to sing. It starts with his back to the camera and then he turns around and immediately starts laughing. They don't show anymore of it, though. He appeared to be drunk in the scene, but I don't know. But that was another one that was never revealed.

I've always thought that was from Ernie Borgnine's character's wake--if I may make reference to what's called an "Irish Wake" in some parts of the U.S.....people get drunk, sing songs and remember the deceased fondly. Coop should have been dressed in a suit (as he was) for the wake, but, after many drinks, etc., he could have ended up looking all disheveled. I really can't think of any other reason for that scene that would be consistent with the rest of the movie.

As to the cab scene, there is faint audio during the pause after Coop says "take me immediately to where they're using child labor" that sounds like someone saying "in what city?", which would fit the basic premise suggested here.

Will has said that Coop starts to sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in that one scene. I still don't know what the scene would be used for, but I'm guessing it was shown around the Will Reading scene.

I found it quite annoying that the Outtakes were on the VHS, but not the DVD. I was about to buy both the VHS and DVD, but then someone told me that the Outtakes are available for download online. Are they at http://www.mattntrey.com or Airman's site, or both?

Nah, leave them where they are. Spschat and mattntrey are on the same server, so I can just copy them over to spschat if mattntrey decides to close down. And if you have outtakes that aren't on mattntrey, meet me at #sps in irc.aquaria.org in the evening and you can dcc them to me, and I'll put them up.

I'm pretty sure there's a few more, but I don't have the capabilities to convert the tape to the computer. If anyone else can, it might be easier to put all the outtakes in one file.

Actually, the only outtake missing from MattnTrey.com is the third "Driver, I'm in a hurry..." one. It shows the first part of it, but the rest isn't there. Not that you're missing much though... That one wasn't to particularly interesting.

All of the other ones featured on the VHS are available to download there, however.
