What a nice surprise!

QUOTE
Trey Parker and Matt Stone have reached a new deal with COMEDY CENTRAL to extend cable's longest-running animated series, "South Park," it was announced today by Michele Ganeless, president, COMEDY CENTRAL. The deal for three additional seasons ensures the top-rated Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series will remain in original episodes through 2016 and a milestone 20th season. Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of "South Park," as they have since the premiere of the series in 1997.

"The collective genius of Matt and Trey knows no bounds," said Ganeless. "Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight 'South Park' fans, and that includes all of us here at COMEDY CENTRAL. We're thrilled that the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman will continue through 2016."

"COMEDY CENTRAL has been our home for 15 years and we love working there," said Parker and Stone. "'South Park' is a blast and we can't wait to make more."

I think it's a bit strange because they just had a new contract till season 17... but I won't complain ;). I'd just love to know what was going on behind the secenes with Comedy Central after the Mohammed trouble and cencorship. Or perhaps it had nothing to do with CC and they just needed some time to try out if they still are satisfied with their own work on the show.

Funfact: They say "The series has also accumulated 35 million fans on Facebook, making it the most-liked series in cable and the #3 series in all of television.". I checked and the Simpson are only #2. #1 is Family Guy :D.

jeez......no comments? wtf happened to this place? ok...

I, for one, say, ".....Score!"

Without South Park, my ties to the....."old-school tv program"..... would be completely severed. Which, would be very weird, because tv used to be good...."back in the day." But, tv/television/tele/etc has turned into complete shit. Complete. Shit. But, not South Park, imo. It's still totally South Park. And, yes, has evolved into it's own (often formulaic) thing, but who gives a shit? It's still it's own thing. Which is more than anything else on television can say, these days.

This is great news.

My youth is tied to South Park (as is Trey's and Matt's, probably....) And neither of those guys has lost a step. Anyone that sees this as "bad news" should consider, maybe, changing the channel... to the CRAP.

Anyways, last night I dreamed that you and your friends (who I guess were just made-up girls) were BBQing me in your back yard in the summer. And it was like a 'Cannibal-Bikini-Blowout.' And the cooking device was a giant grill that I was shackled to, but my head hung off the edge, and you and your friends would rub your asses/pussies in my face to muffle my screams, and giggle madly and joyously.

I still feel like it's going on too long. I love it, but I'd like to see other projects more.

I'm also leaving my youth behind in most aspects of my life though *siggggh* It's kind of a bummer.

I know... So they'll still be doing it when they're nearly 50? Couldn't they just move on at some point? Especially when it's a proven fact that they are able to make other kick ass successful stuff together than just South Park.

They don't want to break up the band. I get that in a big way. All their best friends work on the show. Real and construction paper friends. It probably helps them keep a rhythm to the seasons by now. As long as they're still having fun with south park then I'm down to view. They've proven time and time again that they can do south park and kick the ass of any other project they decide to take on. Another liveaction movie by the sounds of the esquire article. I'm excited for that..how many almost live action movies have been mentioned or half mentioned in the past? Giant monsters attack Japan anyone?

Or Your All-American? Or Dumb and Dumberer? Or ... well, BoM will be a movie sometime down the line, so there's that. :)

Well, they have said before... (I have heard Trey say several times, more-or-less), "....It's too good of a gig to stop doing, and we still feel like it's a good show. If we didn't, or ever became that sick of it, we would stop." And age is just a number, anyway.... Until you're, like, 60.

Sure, there is the art of it and everything, but these guys are making mucho bank to work 14 weeks a year, and have the rest off, paid, because they understand the art of procrastination, at the highest level. And, for these guys, that is more than enough to make a sitcom that actually has merit, and then some. Sure, they could make films instead again, as all of their stuff is brilliant, but I think Team America really burned them out, considerably, on the idea of making more movies, any time soon, that is. Either way, it's still good to know that most people are on-board for more South Park. Because it does still kick ass.

I agree with everythang ol SPP has so eloquently typed out. Plus, they've got the chance to break some serious TV records if they keep SP going even beyond that. I don't think they've got the heart to quit since that'll mean all their friends will be out of work. I think it may go on longer than that even.

I hope you're right Brennan!! :) It all makes sense to me. Sometimes I feel like they should just wrap it up and move on to something more relaxing but then I realize SP is all I have!!!!!!!!!! So more power to it and the crew. <3

Considering I was 13 when I first saw SP, it too is my only connection to my younger (better) TV watching days. TV sucks so much sack now. SP gave me hope that I could one day make money off coming up with ridiculous shit. I'd miss it. A part of me would be dead.

I wonder if they pump oxygen into the studio to help, like in Las Vegas casinos, it keeps you invigorated. If they don't, they should. :sp-towelie:

I wonder if they can stay relevant without taking a big nose dive for that long. The Simpsons are still going strong but their episodes are far weaker compared to the classics. I'm starting to miss the charm of the earlier episodes of South Park before it went very current event-esque, although I'm noticing this half season has gotten much better compared to the previous ones so not all hope is lost.

I pretty much agree with Riny. It is scary, though, that they're contracted to go on for that long. They might end up still doing it in their 50s and when the show's got worse than the Simpsons.
