Specific opinions on anything - not simply random thoughts, ideas, feelings - whatever.

If you ask me...

Souless Vessels Make A Lot of Empty Noise

We oughta know why Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow and Sinead O'Connor still have recording contracts. I've never been a fan of the 'woman with guitar/issues/accordian/bald head' singer/song writer. I'm very bleedin annoyed that they get to produce crappy music and make lots of money while I'm still struggling with my first novel and working here to pay my rent. I believe it's because they sold their souls to various devils and bj'd every facet of corporate gain they could get their mouths around, if you ask me.

So what the fudge is this thread about anyway? The randomness of randomnemity, Skinhead O' Conner, the fact that Sheryl Crow used to blow "Slow Hand" Mr. Clapton? Ive realized no one reads the random thread, wasting great punchlines created, by me, in complete swirling madness of random randomness. The bald one scares me, and who gives a shit about the Pope thing she did, her music sucked hairy ones. And I have no idea, or care what her chrome dome is thinking, or feeling, or hurting; shes like a female version of that REM guy whos so fucking depressed in his notoriety and wealth, nigga please! What kind of novel be you writing? If you have the same hard time figuring what to do with your newfound wealth and fame, stop by and pick Ron up, we'll have the world knee deep in GRAVY!!! Clapton is the man, I dont blame him for hitting young skin. Now whats this thread about again?

Only forums like South Park Studios have things as dumb as the "Random Thread".

Women laugh longer but the laughter may not last .... if you ask scientisits at Stanford Universiry, California...

They also analysed how men and women re-act to cartoons.

Why females laugh longer at punchlines

Alok Jha, science correspondent
Tuesday November 8, 2005
Guardian

Women find the punchlines of jokes more satisfying than men do, according to a study by scientists. They also use more of their brains to appreciate humour in the first place.

Allan Reiss, of the centre for interdisciplinary brain sciences research at Stanford University, California, said his new research might lead to a better understanding of depression and diseases such as cataplexy, where there is an abrupt loss of motor control associated with intense emotions such as humour.

Several parts of the brain are involved in appreciating humour. These include the prefrontal cortex, involved in language processing, and the mesolimbic reward centre, responsible for satisfactory feelings from things such as earning money or taking cocaine.

The results are published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In his experiment, Dr Reiss asked 10 men and 10 women to rate how funny a number of cartoons were. A brain-scanning machine analysed their reactions. Overall, men and women shared many responses.

But the researchers also found that women tended to use certain parts of their brain more than men. These included the left prefrontal cortex, suggesting a greater emphasis on language processing, and a part of the mesolimbic reward centre called the nucleus accumbens.

Dr Reiss said women seemed to analyse the cartoons more before rating them funny, because they were not necessarily expecting them to be as rewarding as men.

"Women appeared to have less expectation of a reward, which in this case was the punchline of the cartoon," said Dr Reiss. "So when they got to the joke's punchline, they were more pleased about it." The funnier the cartoon, the more women's reward centres were activated.

This was not the case for men, who seemed to expect the cartoons to be funny from the start. Dr Reiss said this had implications for the treatment of depression in women - if their reward centres are more sensitive to emotional stimuli, it may help explain why depression strikes twice as many women as men.

The humor a girl finds in a guy's lame joke is directly proportional to how interested said girl is in the guy telling the joke.

If you ask me ... Sharon Stone is hella desperate these days. I hope that she is in no way related to our non-desperate genius, Matt Stone.

Sharon Stone pens hurricane song

Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone has co-written a song to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Come Together Now, released as a single in the US on 29 November, features the Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Joss Stone and more than a dozen other artists.

Proceeds will go to relief charities Habitat for Humanity and Angel's Place.

"Every time this song gets played (*) and gets bought we're building houses and saving kids," said Stone, currently shooting a film about Robert Kennedy.

Stone said she had been writing songs with various collaborators for the past year.

She worked with songwriters Denise Rich, Mark Feist and Damon Sharpe on Come Together Now, which has been available to buy on the internet since 17 October.

The single will also form part of a compilation album called Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now.

The album will include contributions from Elton John, John Mayer, Barbra Streisand and James Brown.

Story from BBC NEWS:

(*) Actually this should read - 'Every time the song gets played a tiny little baby kitten dies'
